wAVe @ Kutrite Works, Snow LAne, Shalesmoor, Sheffield

By at April 30, 2012 | 12:48 pm | 0 Comment

A pure audio-visual experience as part of Sensoria Festival
Sheffield Art Forge is proud to announce wAVe, a truly cutting edge audio-visual event featuring some of the finest practitioners working with the medium.
At: Creative Arts Development Space, Kutrite Works, Snow Lane, Shalesmoor, Sheffield, S3 7AL
Admission £10
Saturday 28th April, 2012, 6pm-midnight
Afterparty: midnight – late
As part of Sensoria Festival, wAVe will offer an immersive and synaesthetic experience sitting between music, film and art. Performers will include both live bands and electronic musicians, combining for a unique event of immense proportions.
Lineup:
Zan Lyons vs Bladerunner AV
One of the most distinctive audio/visual performers to date, violinist, producer and film-maker Zan Lyons’ stunning shows have received critical acclaim across the globe. Explosive beats collide with melancholic concertos. Using his laptop and custom foot pedals, Zan loops his violin, voice and sounds – while manipulating his haunting visuals to incredible effect.
For wAVe, Zan will be reimagining the seminal sci-fi behemoth, Bladerunner. This dramatic reworking of Ridley Scott’s classic sees Zan re-score and remix entire scenes from the film – splicing in his own visuals in the process.

Scanone AV
Perhaps best known for his work with Combat Recordings and as label boss of Yellow Machines, Jude Greenaway aka Scanone is a London-based producer, DJ and AV artist who has been producing, performing and releasing music for well over a decade. In that time he has managed to develop a sound that skirts around the lunatic fringes of a myriad of underground genres, from bass-heavy electronics to glitched-up cinematic IDM. For this performance he will be showcasing some fresh new material from his forthcoming DVD compilation and new unheard cinematic audio visual works.

Origamibiro
Experimental audio-visual collective, Origamibiro will be performing at wAVe to mark the release of their new album, Shakkei. The collaborative trio merge found objects, unorthodox contraptions, multi instrumentalism and persistence of vision to create an atmosphere both nostalgic and otherworldly.
Together, musicians and producers Tom Hill and Andy Tytherleigh and video artist The Joy of Box make connections between seemingly unrelated elements and create a world that plays the scale of human emotions. With atmosphere oozing from their fingertips, it’s no wonder the Dublin Fringe Festival described Origamibiro as “undoubtedly the most original offering of the fringe calendar”

Blood Sport & Guywuy
Sheffield band Blood Sport will be coming out of hibernation for wAVe with a brand new set. A heady mix of post punk, noise rock and afrobeat will provide a live soundtrack to a new film from local film maker, Guywuy. Expect sprawling psychedelia matched with swirling visuals.

This will be a truly unique event. We hope this will be the first of many wAVe fixtures, with other fantastic artists earmarked for the future.

Following on from wAVe will be an afterparty carrying on later into the night. Admission to just the afterparty is £5.

Those who do recall the opening parties on the site will testify that as much as Snow Lane offers in it’s grandiose high ceilings, the Smithfield side can match in pure underground charm.

Harvey Mckay

Harvey Mckay is one of UK techno’s hottest prospects. Having worked his way up through the ranks of the Glaswegian party circuit, Mckay was soon signed to one of electronic music’s most consistent and forwrad thinking labels – Soma Records. From here he perfected his art of stripped down, muscular tech house and weighty, chugging techno. In doing so Mckay gained support from the cream of techno’s crop and subsequently released a string of killer tracks and remixes on labels including Drumcode, Trapez and Saved Records to critical acclaim. His DJ sets are consistently solid and juxtapose depth and credibility with just the right amount of party and panache. He has quickly become an office favourite with us at DLS/CADS and we’re tipping this to be on of our best gigs to date!

Phil Asher

A name that has certainly represented his sound for a long time. A trait that can only be done if don correctly. And that is certainly the case here. Phil Has been making music for quite some time now. Having created well over 80 of his own productions throughout the years while working with some of the greatest names around. His group collaborations can be found under the collectives Blak ‘N’ Spanish, E-Q Lateral, Electric Soul, Focus, Level III, Los Jugaderos, MusicLoveLife, Overcats, Phoojun, Powa, Room Zero, Two Shiny Heads and of course as part of the Restless Soul crew from East London. You can normally catch him throughout the four corners of this music globe however we are thankful he has agreed to join us for our last event this side of the summer. Itchy Pig is proud to welcome Phil Asher to our home of DLS.
