CHRISTMAS CHEER IN SOUTHAMPTON

Come celebrate a musical Christmas with us in the glorious surroundings of Southampton’s Guildhall and a whole variety of seasonal sounds, provided by the fabulous Southampton Philharmonic Choir, wonderful soloist Victoria Simmonds and featuring the amazing Guildhall organ in the hands of virtuoso player Richard Hills.
Southampton Philharmonic Choir is one of the best known and loved choirs in the area, who are soon to be celebrating 150 years of live music-making. They are exquisitely versatile and their repertoire is considerable. Under the leadership of their musical director David Gibson they will bring the building to life with their wonderful music this afternoon.
This festive feast is Victoria Simmonds’ second appearance at the Guildhall – she delighted the audience at the organ’s launch concert in October 2008 with her incredible voice and diversity of styles. One of the UK’s leading operatic and light music soloists she graces the Guildhall stage today to perform a beautiful seasonal selection.
Richard Hills is renowned as the country’s top theatre and concert organist and is equally at home with marvellous orchestral arrangements, popular golden melodies or classical masterpieces. At the Guildhall he has one of the UK’s most musically diverse and versatile instruments in the form of the unique Compton theatre and concert organ. A full orchestra in one incredible instrument – and if you’ve not heard it before, now is the ideal opportunity! Richard provides the backbone to the whole proceedings today and will fill the great auditorium with the organ’s wonderful sounds.
With a superb seasonal selection, from traditional carols to Christmas favourites, a festive atmosphere and a host of talent, this is a not-to-be-missed event for all the family.
