Nine.53 with Dave Haslam & Hatcham Social @ Moho Live - Description
December 16 2009 sees Moholive host the launch night and Xmas party for Nine.53, Manchester’s latest live music night.
Topping the bill are current NME faves Hatcham Social, a fourpiece from New Cross described by Charlatan’s Tim Burgess (who also produced the band’s second single) as ‘a wonderful pop group with the world’s coolest drummer’, Finnigan Kidd, who left the Klaxons to concentrate on Hatcham. Described by The Guardian as ‘irresistable’, it won’t be long before this band will be playing at bigger venues, don’t miss the chance to see them in a more intimate one. http://www.myspace.com/hatchamsocial
Manchester DJ legend Dave Haslam will be behind the decks for the evening. Having DJ-ed over 450 times at the Hacienda (including the last ever night), at Cream in Liverpool, Home in London and in just about every major city in the world, it is fair to say they don’t come much bigger or better… expect a night of classics and much more! Dave also currently presents The Weekender on Xfm. http://www.davehaslam.com/index.html
Live support comes from Real Dolls, made up of rapper Rod Hotly, Manc Japanese rapper Yoshi, production-savvy Real Dave and world-class scratch DJ Peter Parker (Fingathing). These guys produce a unique blend of hip-hop, electro and punk and are a true party band. Live they are in their element with shows constantly changing and energy levels always pushed to the max. Entertainment is high on the agenda as this 4 piece join forces with Veba (Groove Armada, Rae & Christian) and Zoe McVeigh (Hooker) to make effortlessly cool music. It’s only a matter of time before world domination!. http://www.myspace.com/therealdolls
Continuing on the party vibe we have Liverpool two-piece Killaflaw, who are fresh from a succesful ITC 2009 and have a single being released on 9 November 2009. Andy Paton cut his teeth composing electronic music, and performing innovative live electronics sets, with hard beats and intelligently delivered improvisation. Benn Helm spent his years in a more rock/blues environment, writing, singing and playing guitar in several bands prior to. Together they create and deliver a truly unique crossover sound and in 2008 won Liverpool’s Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) award and XFM’s Demo of the Year award and have been described by XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris. as “the missing link between Soundgarden and The Prodigyâ€. http://www.myspace.com/killaflaw
And then there is Humanizer, but enough from me:
“The most exciting band I have heard in ages!” – Martin Coogan, Radio Republic DJ/musician (Mock Turtles).
“Humanizer are a band doing their own thing rather than trying to desperately to fit into any scene. One of the best unsigned bands in Manchester,” – Neville Cottee, Radio Republic/South nightclub DJ
“One of the best bands to come out of Manchester in the last 10 years. Capable of making such astonishing, monumental music, I find hard to believe it actually exists,” – Jeff Grainger, Dandelion Radio
“It’s very rare you have so many people talking about a band who haven’t even gigged yet! With a sound of no other act out there right now, you just now this band are destined for great things. My early tip of the year…… sure to be talked about around Manchester for many years to come. A must see new band of the year” – Danny Khader, Underground Promotions http://www.myspace.com/humanizer
We are also pleased to announce Kait Devoy will be joining us for a mellow start to the evening, previously of Liverpool’s Ella Guru, John Peel favourites, whose first album received critical acclaim, 4**** in Uncut, Independent and Guardian. Played All Tomorrow’s Parties; The Green Man Festival; Union Chapel and supported Low at the Scala in London; with live sessions on XFM; 6Music; Radio 1; Radio 2 and Radio 4. http://www.myspace.com/kaitdevoy
