England v Barbarians @ Twickenham Stadium - Description

England face the Barbarians for the MasterCard Trophy at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday 30th May 2010. The atmosphere promises to be electric as rugby players from around the world come together to try and defeat England on home soil.

Barbarians’ rugby has plenty of fast, attacking play and a team keen to prove they are worthy of being invited to this, most exclusive of clubs. England meanwhile will be keen to capitalise on the promise shown in their game against France in the final round of the 2010 RBS 6 Nations, and the MasterCard Trophy is a great opportunity for all players to shine on an International stage.

The Barbarians won last year’s clash 33-26, hanging on for victory after England fought back from 26-5 down against a side including world-class players like Doug Howlett, Gordon D’Arcy, Josh Lewsey and Martin Corry.

England team manager Martin Johnson said, “The Baa-Baas match is always a great battle, and one that we very much look forward to. It’s a great opportunity for all our players to prove themselves ahead of the summer tour and Investec Internationals.“

Barbarians’ president Micky Steele-Bodger said, “Playing England at Twickenham is now an established highlight of our annual calendar, not least because top-class players from all over the world readily accept our invitations for them to be part of the occasion. This year our squad will be coached by Philippe Saint-Andre and Kingsley Jones and our recruitment preparations are well advanced.”
