Created 1826 by George Stephenson as a colliery railway, transporting coal from nearby pits. After 24 years taken over by the Bowes family. Now the only preserved rope-hauled railway in the world. Apparitions of colliery workers in & around the large old buildings & trains has left people running & screaming. Strange smells, noises & items moved on their own makes an eerie place after dark.
