Fifteen of us were at Glamis Castle for Halloween last year and had a blast! Already got tickets again for this year.
This was an absolutely fantastic event. Went last year and on Halloween this year with 3 other families. It has improved a lot this year with additional spooky characters, props and stories. This year, assistants and additional story tellers supported Jackie Ross who was, as always, incredibly engaging with both the children and adults.
The story started in the old 16th Century kitchens, then moved to the dimly lit crypt, where we were joined by two headless men and pounced on by a ghost in a suit of armor! It was scary and hilarious! We all proceeded across the lawn in front of the castle to one of the old stone follies, where a cauldron was suspended over burning embers. There, we met a witch, who continued the story. At the end of the story and the costume competition, our group proceeded back over the lawn to the other folly, which was surrounded by fake spoof grave stones. Inside the folly we met another storyteller, the Undertaker, who also very engaging. All in all it was a fabulous spooky evening full of scary surprises and laughs too. The setting at one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland added to the authenticity of the night and the effort and enthusiasm of staff, who were all in costume, was great.
Lovely too, at the end of the night to finish off in the Glamis Kitchen restaurant, where staff had put on a number of Halloween table activities for the children. We all enjoyed a spooky cake, and some light refreshments before we headed off into the night on our broomsticks!
