Pontefract Lane Sunday Market @ Old wholesale market site on Cross Green Trading Estate - Description
The market is held at the old wholesale market site on Cross Green trading estate. This vast market regularly has over 1000 stalls selling both new and used items.
Regular traders must hold a permit to trade. Please see the attached documents for more information on whether you are classed as a trader or a seller, and how to apply for a trader’s permit.
Car booters (sellers) should arrive early, the gates open at 6.30am for sellers.
The market officially opens at 6.00am for the public and closes at 2.00pm.
Prices
The site is split in to three zones. Zones A, B and C (zone C is where casual car booters normally go.) The cost per bay is £45 in Zone A, £36 in Zone B, and £17 in Zone C. Traders who hold a permit pay an additional £5 to trade, and all traders must hold a permit.

I HAVE BEEN TO THIS SITE THREE TIMES AND THERE IS NO CAR BOOT APPARENTLY THE CAR BOOT WAS CLOSED SEVERALL WEEKS AGO
i’v been to leeds carboot sale just 2 weeksago and it wasnt open even though it said ‘open from first sunday of march’ why is it closed then??
Don’t waste your time going to this boot sale as it was closed down PERMANENTLY in Jan 2010. It was closed because of the vast amount of pirate dvd sellers & other illegal things being sold on the site. They tried to control it but it couldn’t be done so they closed it. As always, the public losing out due to the actions of a few idiots !
Note it says “ARCHIVED EVENT” in the title – means it is an old event (from January – as the date would indicate) doesn’t mean it is still on!
does anyone know another good place to go instead?
the carboot here will be opening again soon as the council are losing out on too much cash having it sat empty – expect it open in the next month or so i would expect
This car boot sale has been closed since January – Unfortunately it is still listed as being on on many car boot sale websites.
At least this website says ‘Archived Event’, though ‘Expired’ would be better.
You can read the Council’s official press release on where it was closed here – <a href="http://newsfeed.leedsvirtualnewsroom.co.uk/2010/01/closure-of-cross-green-market.html"
Whether it will be opening again or not i'm not sure and i've not heard anything from my car boot peers to suggest it will.
What you say is interesting though Dan – do you mind if I ask where you heard that from?
Anthony
No “Expired” would be the wrong thing to automatically say about events which are from the past – it happend, in the past, it is therefore archived. The event cannot “unhappen”. You are talking about future events. THIS listing is for a SPECIFIC car boot sale, one which was due to TAKE PLACE on 17th January 2010.
If car boot sales websites list events that aren’t happening, that is their concern.
If someone wishes to come in and contribute some conjecture about future events, that is fine by us. We credit people with the intellect to realise when someone is doing this, just as we expect people to read the title at the top where it says “on 17th January 2010″ – there can’t be any confusion there. That car boot sales websites are generally poorly run is not our concern.
Hi Rob,
Point taken – ‘Archived Event’ may be the better term in this case. RE: car boot sale websites being poorly run not being your concern, of course it isn’t.
I was just contributing to the topic and what I have seen on my online travels and feeding back to the community, as well as asking a question to another user (Dan)
Just a heads up btw – every time I load up this page a popup shows and says ‘postcode not found’.
It appears that when the form is being auto submitted every time the page loads, might be something to get the techies to look at
