This year’s Scottish Grand National at Ayr Racecourse:
This year the action takes place on Friday April 16 and Saturday April 17 and racegoers from all over the UK and Ireland will flock to the Craigie track to watch the best horses ridden by the best jockeys and at the same time soak in the wonderful atmosphere.
If this Festival were a movie it would be billed ‘starring A.P. McCoy, Ruby Walsh, ‘Choc’ Thornton, Timmy Murphy and a full sporting cast’… quite simply its racing at its very best.
With around £600,000 in prize money on offer the stakes are high and the action quite simply superb. The cheer that reverberates around the course when the tapes go up for the Coral Scottish Grand National signals the start of a race that’s not only watched by up to 18,000 from the stands but an additional 1,000,000 viewers on Channel 4 making the Scottish National one of the most watched races of the year.
A Scottish trained horse hasn’t won the race since 1982 but that could change this year with Lucinda Russell’s Silver By Nature looking to have a real chance.
