Saturday 4th July for Americans represents independence day, one of the most important days in their calendar. For rugby fans, Saturday 4th July 2009 means one thing: a potential Lions Tour decider!
If the series between the Springboks and the British and Irish Lions has been decided by the time we get to test match number 3, this match will still be hard fought as the sides will look for whitewashes and to save face.
If the series isn’t decided, you know this is the biggest of big matches. Remember Jerry Gusgot rolling back the years (and acting quite out of character) dropping that goal in 1997? Well things like that happen in Lions matches, they just do.
This is set to be a massive match whatever the circumstances heading in to the game, but if its tied at 1-1 going in, this will be huge, and everyone with a rugby ball shaped head will be looking towards the Ellis Park Stadium on Independence Day.
