White Christmas @ The Lowry - Description
The spectacular stage musical of the classic 1954 movie starring Bing Crosby makes its North West debut at The Lowry for the holiday period 2009 with a spectacular all-star cast.
Aled Jones, singer, actor, radio and TV presenter brings his effervescent charm and talent to the role of Bob Wallace. He is joined by international dance star of stage and screen Adam Cooper (Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Billy Elliot the movie and principal at the Royal Ballet) who plays Phil Davis, the other half of the song and dance duo.
They are joined by Suzanne Shaw (2008 Dancing on Ice Champion and member of the pop group Hear’Say) as one of our leading ladies, Judy Haynes and West End star Rachel Stanley plays Betty Haynes. Rachel has wowed audiences with her appearances in White Christmas (2007 & 2008), Grace Farrell in the No 1 Tour of Annie, Truly Scrumptious in No 1 tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Velma Kelly in the West End production of Chicago.
Tony Award-winning actor Roy Dotrice (OBE) takes the role of General Waverly bringing with him a prolific career on stage and screen and finally to round of this impressive troupe Louise Plowright plays Martha Watson. Louise is best known for her leading role of Donna in the West End hit Mamma Mia!
White Christmas was first brought to the UK stage in 2006 by the producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and appeared at the Plymouth Theatre Royal and The Mayflower Theatre Southampton. In 2007 it broke box office records at the Edinburgh Playhouse and Wales Millennium Centre. Brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like Snow, Happy Holiday, Sisters and of course the unforgettable title song White Christmas, it tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.
A multi-million pound production which has won local and national acclaim, this delightful musical is as fresh and rare as newly fallen snow. With an ensemble of over 30 and a dynamic 17-piece orchestra, this spectacular musical is full of tap dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas promises to be a merry and bright theatrical experience for the whole family.
